Allison swan

Pilates Matwork

Allison Swan was first introduced to the Pilates Method through matwork classes in 1988. She trained to be a teacher with Hana Jones at Pilates off the Square, originally based in Danceworks, on the two year comprehensive course which covers both matwork and apparatus.
She started her business 'Pilates Matwork' in 1992 with two classes at the Royal Free Hospital Recreation Club, and for many years was one of a few teachers who ran matwork only classes. She now teaches matwork in five centres in North and Central London. Allison is an accredited teacher trainer with the Pilates Foundation, offering a one year matwork course at Barnet General Hospital and regularly lectures on Pilates for the Older Adult.

In May 1999 Allison joined the board of directors of the Pilates Foundation UK and in April 2001 she was elected to the position of Chairperson which she held for four years. She still takes an active role in the foundation, developing standards for matwork training, working as an examiner and on the website committee.

"My love of Pilates is its adaptability I am always able to offer something for everyone, whether my clients are recovering from an injury or operation, managing back pain, maintaining good fitness levels or training in dance or sports. Even after teaching for 15 years I am still learning new things about the Method that I can pass onto clients. Throughout my career I have been lucky enough to work with and learn from the most experienced Pilates teachers and still do so with the excellent support provided by the Pilates Foundation UK"
