Melody Woodhead
Yoga Instructor
Melody’s natural grace and tempo has led her inevitably to Dance. From the age of 5 she has pursued an exciting career in Classical Ballet, Jazz, Bollywood and Commercial Dance.
Both parents are lifelong students of a living Master of Inner Peace and although she has not yet learned the techniques herself, growing up in this environment has given her a deeper understanding of the inner dimension to life. This understanding, combined with dance, makes Yoga a natural progression – initially seeing Yoga as a way to help stretch, strengthen and support her dance activities, but soon discovering the many other health benefits, above all, helping her to live life more consciously.
Melody has practiced Yoga for 10 years. She began with Hatha then discovered Bikram Yoga (hot Hatha). The extreme heat conditions taught her the importance of the breath, how to use it to find stillness and tranquillity and its cleansing effect. She also practiced Ashtanga and Kundalini Yoga and experimented with many other traditions.
Her passion for Yoga, and concern for mankind in general, grew naturally into a desire to help others discover a greater potential in their own lives, and she qualified to teach Yoga under the guidance of some of the world´s most celebrated practitioners at Yoga Life in Mcleodganj (also the home of the current Dalai Llama), in the Indian Himalayas. Her qualification is certified through the Yoga Alliance (www.yogaalliance.co.uk).
Her classes offer a unique blend of dynamic Hatha Yoga from a diverse range of influences aiming to improve strength, flexibility, tone, vitality, overall health, balance and wellbeing. To maximise the benefits, she combines the physical & spiritual elements of yoga in an unpretentious way making it accessible and enjoyable for all. At the end of a class, having worked every part of the body, students feel calm, energised, cleansed, re-connected with themselves and have greater clarity of mind. All are welcome from absolute beginners through to intermediate level, and her sweet temperament encourages everyone to enjoy themselves. Melody says “I believe everyone can enjoy the benefits of Yoga and I endeavour to make it safe, enjoyable and achievable for all”.
Yoga is combined with her passion for Nutrition & Thai massage to meet her clients goal to look & feel as good as possible for as long as possible, without interfering with the practical realities of modern living.
Apart from her private clients, she also teaches at The Buddhist Centre (Notting Hill) and various West London Health Clubs. She collaborated in the founding of “Yoga in the Park” at Hyde Park in the summer of 2009 and is excited about a new class in Central London at the famous Danceworks Studios.
As for the future, Melody plans to continue her path of learning, healing and service to others and would like to qualify in Thai Massage, Mother and Baby Yoga, Ayurveda and Reiki. She is currently developing ‘Yoga for Dancers’. In her spare time she continues to dance professionally, learn ways to care for planet earth, enjoys witnessing the miracles of Mother Nature, learning more about nutrition, the healing arts, and …snow boarding!
